We eventually got round to playing this game. I think we were both a bit daunted at the scale of it, particularly the Witchfinder player who had 60+ figures to handle; and there was also tactics to consider. As a result, both players dithered some what in the opening moves.

It wasn't until Turn 3 that the Witchfinder got his field piece unlimbered, turned round and loaded, by which time Gloomy Conditions had set in and average visibility was only 18". The manor gates were 22" from the gun. Still, not only did the gunners manage to see the gates, but also blasted them open with the first shot! The subsequent turns were a mad rush for the gateway.

A unit of Witchfinder cavalry rode into the manor courtyard and traded pistol shots with Prince Schubert. True to the Witchfinder player's form, out of 4 shots at the Prince, 3 missed, and Lad caught the forth in his teeth. In a round of Fisticuffs elsewhere on the field, the Witchfinder's second figure in a multiple attack (where the best score of two Attack and Defence dice is taken) managed to roll four '1's. By Turn 5, after the Great Beast (summonsed by a witch) and three werewolves had waded in there wasn't much left of the Witchfinder's force to exploit the open gate (the cavalry had been eliminated by this time).

Still, the Witchfinders managed to account for the Great Beast, two werewolves, two witches, and Lady Lilith when in the form of a vampire bat. So the Witchfinder player felt that if he hadn't stormed the manor, he'd at least taken the moral high ground.

It was, once again a great game, but next time both players will have to plan their moves more carefully.

A couple of minor points came up:
1. Can the field piece start the game unlimbered and loaded?
2. When Prince Schubert transfoms into a vampire bat, does Lad revert to being an ordinary bargest?

Hello Drusty
Thanks for your report and the great photos of your first 'Storm the Manor' game that I will add to the Grim Gallery.
1. In this particular encounter I do recommend the field piece begins limbered and unloaded. This is to encourage some of the forces of evil to go on the offensive and the witchfinders to charge forward with the battering ram, ladders and petard. This is not set in stone and if both (all) players agree the field piece could begin positioned within 8 inches of the long board edge deployment zone unlimbered and loaded - but a lucky shot on the first turn could make the game a little less exciting (for the forces of evil anyway).
2. Lad would still have the special avoid harm ability to try and catch bullets with his teeth – although, as Prince Schubert is no longer within 3 inches, Lad would be saving his own skin instead of his master.
Once again thank you for your questions and for playing all of the encounters in the rulebook. New encounters to follow soon.

Many thanks, Black Sheep, for the comments. We hope to play the second game of this encounter pretty soon, and then look forwrad to the new encounters, although we have one of our own brewing in the pot, so to speak.

Pics from Drusty and Steve's 'Storm the Manor' game have been added to Grim Gallery 1. I particularly like Drusty's impressive scratch built fortified manor house .

Hey, Black Sheep, you seem to have a parrot on your shoulder that goes by the name of Chuck McDaniel!

I hate spammers, but this one doesn't say anything, just repeats the last sentence of any of your posts. Sock it to him

He might sell DVDs, but he doesn't have a copy of Witchfinder General. So the verdict must be...
