Can a cow be roped from horseback (a la Rowdy Yates)? And can a tethered horse be untethered from horseback (a la Josey Wales)?

Hello again Drusty. Following your tip off I had a quick look at the TMP C18th Imagi-nations board. Thanks for supporting the game , it is really appreciated.

Good question. I too wonder if anyone else on the forum knows if there is a C17th equivalent word for lasso? I have a good feeling there will be.

I think this makes a worthy forum 'pub quiz' question two.

Cheers again, Black Sheep, for the answers. Without wanting to turn the game into a Witchfinder Wild West Show, one or two characters with a lasso (is there a C17th equivalent word?)gumption would be a nice touch. We like the rule for cows going rogue, and had great fun with it in the last game when the two cows broke loose from their respective minders and ended up heading in opposite directions.

On another note: there was a query on TMP a few days ago about Witchfinder. Someone noted they couldn't find out much about the game, and what they had heard had not all been positive. To disabuse them, I posted a brief summary of the game mechanics and gameplay. Perhaps a closer watch on TMP should be kept; but then again, the original post was on the C18th Imagi-nations board!

Hi Drusty. A mounted figure in (appropriate) base contact with a tethered horse can automatically unfasten it for one command as indicated on page 88. A mounted figure in base contact with a cow can also rope it for one command too.
Your question reminded me of a discussion that arose in playtesting about 'lassoing' from a distance (that the rules do not currently cater for). Despite the strong fantasy/ folklore theme in WG we have tried to ensure the rules accurately reflect 17th Century life. Although apparently the lasso has been used in different forms for thousands of years I do not know if a 17th Century dragoon, cavalryman or rural clubman would use a lasso ( a la Rowdy Yates)? It could perhaps be unique gumption given to a member of a force that are experts at looting - (that particularly wicked Fantom chap and his fellows spring to mind again). What do you think?
