Thanks to Undave and my missus for the game played at Northampton Warlords Club on Sunday.
Brief report on my blog.

Just a thought....
Does anyone think it may be a good idea to have an 'opponent finder' type thread on here??

Those chaps at the GCN are really on the ball. They have sent an almost immediate reply. Thank you. I will read the comprehensive guidance the GCN have kindly sent this evening and put an update on the forum regarding an opponent finder thread asap.

Definitely a couple of cautionary tales of finding the wrong opponent!
I have just sent an e-mail to the GCN asking for their view and advice on running an 'opponent finder thread'. I will let you know what they recommend as soon as they get back to me.

Here is a quick link to a preview of the Faintheart movie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwzplaSChFw&feature=related

Now I know where the idea for that episode of "Luther" came from!
You know, the one where the guy kept rolling his dice and then killing people? Started in the petrol station beating a bloke with a hammer, then fired acid into someone's face from a water pistol and so on!

Ah..these are the kind of concerns I had going through my head. And again have never had any experience myself of the correct way to go about these things as regards internet safety. Good there are organisations like the GCN to help and advise.
How things have changed from the time I first got in to gaming in the early 80's.....but still as much fun.
Haven't seen that program but will look it out
I used to help run a 'roleplaying' club years ago and rented a room above a charity organisation...one night had some really strange sort turn up, the evening got very wierd if I remember, turns out he was recommended he attend by the charity who though 'roleplaying' refered to some kind of rehabilitation and learning social and community skills. Poor chap must have been very poorly prepared for reintergration into society when his training consisted of kicking in dungeon doors and killing orcs!

Hello Sarge and Warhamsterdave. We would have no objections to people using this forum to find like minded opponents and provide links to their local gaming club and generally promote our grand wargaming hobby. I think in principle it is a really good idea too. I must admit it is not an area 'the management' have previous experience of though. I would like to take advice from the Gaming Club Network (GCN) and find out if they have any recommendations on this matter. I know us three are adult blokes that like wargaming but I just want to check to see if the GCN
do suggest anything to help make sure we keep younger gamers safe if we do start such a thread (in case someone dodgy did try to use it). Does that sound OK?
On a lighter note has anyone seen the comedy 'Faintheart'? 'Trekkie', Julian, nearly gets into bother when he makes contact with a fellow 'Trekkie' over the internet.

I think it would be a good idea too and would be happy to put some details for myself on here, you know e-mail, links to my local club etc.

Can we throw this up for the managment....would you have any objections if I/we started such a thread? Any thoughts?

that sounds like a good idea.

often people do not realise how close they are to each other.
