I pity the fool!
Had to say it, Mr. T.
Do you mean the cat found in the wall? Mummified cats being used to ward off evil. Man, this is just creepy, the whole house and the story. Love it! |

Posted - 09 Dec 2011 : 13:06:44 The thing is that, while it is nice to think that it was a Witch's house, it most likely isn't. The evidence for it being one is the fact that they found a mummified cat! However a week or so earlier, there was a programme on the BBC where they were looking at old customs. One of the things people used to do to ward off bad luck, evil spirits or what have you, was to place an item like a shoe or a bird, cat or some other small creature into the wall, usually in the chimney. Everyone used to do it because of superstition. Now, because this is in an area known for the Pendle Witches, everyone assumes that it must have belonged to a witch! It's the media going mad again, just like they have done every day, since it started to get cold..."Oooh, the snow is coming and it's going to be really bad! You must make sure that you have a torch to hand and enough food and bottled water to last three days". Whaaat? Report on something of real value instead of peddling crap to sow fear and panic!
Sorry, I am a real cynic at times! |
